Mañjughoṣa thangka

Object location: Living room

A framed thangka representing the figure of Mañjughoṣa, a form of Mañjuśrī, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, hangs in the living room above the desk. Sangharakshita took great care in choosing the position of the objects around him and this painting is no exception.

The thangka was purchased – like many of his other Tibetan thangkas – in Kalimpong. The Mañjughoṣa Stuti Sādhana was one of four initiations which Sangharakshita received from his teacher, Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, in 1957 and which continued to have great importance to him for the rest of his life.

When I was writing The Three Jewels, for example, and came to a point where I wasn't clear, I used to stop and do the meditation of Mañjuśrī, and I used to find that very helpful.
