'Frozen Pigeon’

The large photograph that stands on the living room desk was a gift from local photographer and Mitra, Miles Pilling, when he visited Sangharakshita in early 2018. 

Sangharakshita was very taken with the picture and had intended to have it framed so it could be properly displayed. Miles recalls Sangharakshita’s appreciation that the photograph was in black and white, which, given his eye condition, he could see more easily than if it had been in colour. He was also ‘very happy that she was helping the pigeons!’ 

The title refers both to the picture on the bag the lady carries – the falling stars are from the Disney film Frozen – and because, by taking the photograph, the pigeon has been frozen in flight. The photo was included in an exhibition at the Worcester Arts Workshop. A copy now hangs – to her delight – in the local café of the lady in the picture.
